Overview
ChilledSites lets you upload your own images or generate new ones with AI. Using real photos — of your actual business, team, workspace, or products — can dramatically improve how authentic and professional your site looks to visitors. Stock photos are fine to start, but custom images build real trust.

- 2 Choose files from your device using the file picker, or drag and drop images directly into the upload area.
- 3 Wait for the upload to complete. Images will appear in your media library, ready to place on any page.
- 4 Click an image in the media library to insert it, or drag it to the desired position on your page.
Optimising Images for Web
The best images in the world won't help if they slow your website down. Image optimisation directly affects both your Google rankings and how quickly visitors see your content.
- Use images under 2000px wide — larger images add file size without improving how they look on screen
- Compress before uploading — use tools like TinyPNG (tinypng.com) or Squoosh (squoosh.app) to reduce file size by 50–80% with no visible quality loss
- Add descriptive alt text — this helps Google understand your images and improves accessibility for users with screen readers
- Use WebP format where possible — WebP images are typically 25–35% smaller than equivalent JPGs
- Name files descriptively — "london-cafe-interior.jpg" is better than "IMG_4521.jpg" for SEO
Managing and Replacing Images
Replacing an Image
- Click on the image in the editor
- Select "Replace" from the toolbar that appears
- Choose your new image from your device or media library
- The new image inherits the same position and sizing
Deleting Images
- Open your media library from the editor
- Hover over the image you want to remove
- Click the trash icon that appears
- Confirm deletion — this cannot be undone
You can re-order images within galleries by dragging them in the media library. Images placed in specific page positions need to be replaced manually using the method above.
Best Practices
- Use original photos where possible — real images of your actual business, team, or products build significantly more trust than stock photos
- Avoid generic stock photos — if visitors recognise the image from another website, it undermines credibility
- Name files descriptively — use keywords relevant to your business in the filename for SEO benefit
- Test on mobile — preview your site on your phone after adding images to check layout and cropping at smaller screen sizes
- Consistent style and tone — images that feel like they belong together (similar lighting, colour tone, style) make your site look more professional
- Add alt text to every image — be descriptive but concise. "Plumber fitting a boiler in a Manchester kitchen" is much better than "image1" or leaving it blank
