Every time a website goes live on ChilledSites, we plant a real tree. Automatically, at our cost, with a public record for every single one.
Real trees, real projects, real records. Every number here comes straight from our planting ledger.
Each tree below is a real website built on ChilledSites, and a real tree in the ground. Hover a tree to see the site it was planted for.
We did the maths, deliberately rounding against ourselves. Short answer: comfortably, with plenty left over.
A typical site takes a few hundred thousand AI tokens to generate and refine. Even on generous estimates of the electricity behind that compute, the whole build works out at well under a kilogram of CO2e.
Serving a small business site for a year, every page view, every image, every visit, typically adds up to a few kilograms of CO2e. Our sites are lightweight and CDN-cached, which keeps this low.
A single established tree is commonly estimated to absorb around 20 to 25 kilograms of CO2 per year, and keeps doing it year after year for decades.
These are honest back-of-envelope estimates, not an audit: real figures vary with traffic, grid mix and tree species, so we sized the promise to cover the worst case. One tree per site covers the build and years of hosting, and the carbon projects below cover what trees alone don't.
We plant through Ecologi's verified reforestation partners. These are the projects our trees are growing in right now, straight from our planting ledger.
Trees take years to reach full effect, so every month we also fund verified projects that cut emissions today.
Working with indigenous communities in eastern Colombia to keep one of the world's great carbon stores standing.
Replacing open-fire cooking with efficient stoves, cutting household emissions and indoor smoke at the same time.
Both are funded through our monthly Ecologi climate subscription and recorded on our public profile.
The moment a website goes live, a tree is queued. No sign-up boxes, no opt-ins, no exceptions.
The trees and the carbon projects come out of our pocket. Nothing is added to any plan or bill, and it never will be.
Every tree has its own record with Ecologi, tied to a verified planting project. Our whole climate ledger is public.
Trees remove carbon slowly over decades. Carbon-avoidance projects cut emissions now. Real offsetting needs both.
