MCP Setup Guide

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard created by Anthropic that allows Claude to connect to external tools and services. Think of it as a bridge that lets Claude talk to ChilledSites directly.

Why is this useful?

With the ChilledSites MCP server, you can:

Generate websites by describing what you want in plain English
Edit website code with conversational commands
Deploy websites to live hosting automatically
Manage all your websites without leaving Claude

Instead of opening a web browser and clicking through the ChilledSites dashboard, you can just chat with Claude and it will handle everything for you!

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you have these three things ready:

ChilledSites Account

You need an account on chilledsites.com. Sign up is free and takes 30 seconds.

Claude Desktop or Claude Code

Download Claude Desktop from claude.ai/download or install Claude Code (the VSCode extension). Either works!

Node.js (Optional but Recommended)

The MCP server runs using npx, which comes with Node.js. If you don't have it, download from nodejs.org.

Generate API Credentials

First, you need to create API keys so Claude can access your ChilledSites account securely.

Log into ChilledSites

Go to chilledsites.com and sign in to your account.

If you don't have an account yet, sign up for free - it takes just 30 seconds and you'll get free tokens to start building.

Open Your Profile Menu

Look for your profile avatar button - it's the circular button in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Click on it to open the profile menu.

Tip: The avatar shows your profile picture or initials. Pro users will see a crown icon on it.

Click "Settings" in the Dropdown

In the profile dropdown menu that appears, find and click the "Settings" option (it has a gear icon).

This will open the Profile & Settings modal window.

Navigate to the API Keys Tab

In the Profile & Settings modal, you'll see several tabs at the top. Click on the "API Keys" tab (it has a key icon).

You'll see tabs for: Profile, Contact, Subscription, API Keys, Interface, Privacy

Generate New API Key

In the API Keys tab, you'll see a blue card that says "Connect Claude Desktop or Claude Code". Click the "Generate New API Key" button.

Fill in the Key Details

A modal will open. Fill in the following:

• Key Name: Give it a descriptive name like Claude Desktop or MCP Integration
• Permissions: Check all three boxes - Read, Write, and Deploy

Click "Create API Key" to generate your credentials.

Save Your Credentials - CRITICAL STEP!

IMPORTANT - Read This!

A new modal will appear showing your API Key and API Secret. You will only see these ONCE! If you close the modal without copying them, you'll need to delete this key and generate a new one.

Use the copy buttons next to each field to copy both values. Save them somewhere safe (like a password manager or secure note). You'll need them in the next step.

API Key: cs_live_abc123...

API Secret: cs_secret_xyz789...

After you've saved both credentials, click "I've Saved My Credentials" to close the modal.

Install Claude Desktop

If you don't have Claude Desktop installed yet, here's how to get it:

Download Claude Desktop

Visit claude.ai/download and download the app for your operating system:

macOS: Download the .dmg file
Windows: Download the .exe installer
Linux: Download the AppImage or .deb package

Install and Open

Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions. Once installed, open Claude Desktop and sign in with your Anthropic account.

Already using Claude Code?

If you prefer using Claude Code (the VSCode extension), that works too! The MCP setup process is the same. Just follow the next steps to configure the MCP server.

Configure MCP Server

This is where we connect everything together. Don't worry - it's easier than it looks!

Find Your Config File

Claude Desktop stores its configuration in a JSON file. The location depends on your operating system:

macOS

~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Windows

%APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

Linux

~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Tip: If this file doesn't exist yet, you can create it manually. Just make sure to create the folder structure first!

Open the Config File

Open this file in any text editor. Here are some easy options:

macOS: TextEdit, VS Code, or any code editor
Windows: Notepad, Notepad++, or VS Code
Linux: nano, vim, gedit, or VS Code

Important: If the file is empty or doesn't exist, that's okay! Just paste the configuration from the next step.

Add ChilledSites MCP Configuration

Copy this configuration and paste it into your config file. Make sure to replace the API key and secret with your own!

Don't Forget to Replace!

Replace cs_live_your_api_key_here with your actual API Key.

Replace cs_secret_your_secret_here with your actual API Secret.

Example with real values:

Save and Close

Save the config file and close your text editor.

Pro Tip: Make sure the file is saved as plain text (not as a .rtf or .doc file). The file extension should be .json

Restart Claude Desktop

Completely quit Claude Desktop (not just close the window - actually quit the app), then open it again.

macOS: Press Cmd + Q or right-click the dock icon and choose "Quit"
Windows: Right-click the system tray icon and choose "Exit"
Linux: Use your window manager's quit option or Alt + F4

Test Your Setup

Let's make sure everything is working correctly!

Open Claude Desktop

Launch Claude Desktop and start a new conversation.

Check for MCP Tools

Type this message to Claude:

"Can you check my ChilledSites token balance?"

If everything is set up correctly, Claude should use the get_token_balance tool and show you your token balance!

Success!

If Claude was able to check your balance, congratulations! Your MCP server is working correctly. You can now start building websites with Claude!

Usage Examples

Now that you're set up, here are some things you can ask Claude to do:

Generate a Website

"Create a landing page for my coffee shop called 'Brew Haven'. It should have a hero section with our tagline 'Coffee Made with Love', a menu section, location info, and contact form. Use warm brown colors."

Claude will generate a complete website based on your description!

View Your Websites

"Show me all my ChilledSites websites"

Claude will list all your websites with their IDs and URLs.

Edit Website Code

"Get the HTML code for website abc-123 and change the heading to 'Welcome to Brew Haven'"

Claude will fetch, edit, and update your website code.

Deploy to Live Hosting

"Deploy website abc-123 to the subdomain 'brewhaven'"

Your site will be live at brewhaven.chilledsites.com!

Pro Tips

Be specific about design preferences (colors, layout, style)
Reference your websites by their ID or name
Ask Claude to explain what it's doing if you're curious!
You can iterate on designs - just keep chatting and refining

Troubleshooting

Running into issues? Here are solutions to common problems:

"Invalid API credentials" error

Solution:

Double-check that you copied your API key and secret correctly
Make sure there are no extra spaces or quotes around the values
Verify you're using a "live" key (starts with cs_live_)
Try generating a new API key from your ChilledSites settings

MCP server not showing up in Claude

Solution:

Make sure you completely quit and restarted Claude Desktop (not just closed the window)
Check that your config file is valid JSON (use a JSON validator online)
Verify the config file is in the correct location for your OS
Make sure Node.js is installed (node --version in terminal)

"Insufficient tokens" error

Solution:

Ask Claude to check your token balance
Purchase more tokens at chilledsites.com/settings
Each website generation typically costs around 10,000-50,000 tokens depending on complexity

Config file won't save or can't find it

Solution:

Make sure the parent folders exist (create them if they don't)
Check file permissions - you should have write access
On macOS, use Cmd + Shift + . in Finder to show hidden files
On Windows, enable "Show hidden files" in Folder Options
